Occulto Game

Hello everyone, this is the first of a series of articles about Occulto Game development.

In this article:

  • A brief introduction to Occulto Game
  • Something about the authors of Occulto (me and Luigi)
  • Overview of the technologies we use
  • Why to follow Occulto news
  • How to follow Occulto game development

What is Occulto?

Hello, I am Eliot a mage apprentice. Today I have potions lesson.

Occulto is an artistic adventure game developed by me (Andrea Koutifaris) and Luigi Cinelli. I am a software developer and Luigi is a math teacher, but also a great digital painter. Some years ago we started Occulto development and released a demo at the beginning of 2022.

Since I finished playing Machinarium I “felt the need” of creating my own game, but it took me several years before I got on the right track. If you are curious about the story of Occulto, here you can find an article I wrote some time ago on freeCodeCamp.

Today we are developing the 11th scene of the game, released a 4 scenes demo and we plan to release the entire game at the end of 2023.

The technologies we are using

Unity, FMOD, Adobe

In developing a 2D point & click game there are, more or less, 3 important aspects:

  • Programming: I use Unity framework to assemble and develop the game.
  • Graphics: Luigi uses Adobe products to draws all the graphical resources we use. More in details he uses
    - Photoshop with a graphic tablet to draw all the static assets
    - After Effects to make the animations
  • Sounds and music: Antonio Nardi, a professional sound designer, helps us with the music and sounds. We started with simple mp3 files but now we are integrating FMOD, a professional solution for sounds in games.

Should you follow Occulto Game development?

What?! What happened here! Where is the Magister?

Well, if you like adventure games, you should! This is a truly indie game, as well as our very fist game. Imagine having read Game Of Thrones before it was famous or watched Pillars of the Eternity becoming a reality! Well, you can follow Occulto before it is released!

  • Do you think the graphics are cool?
  • Do you appreciate hand drawn pictures in a game?
  • Do you like visual riddles?

If you answered yes to some of the questions above, well you probably will be intrigued by Occulto development as well as the game itself.

We think Occulto Game will be a success because there are very a few artistic games out there, we love developing it and we are receiving a lot of very good reviews. At this stage of the game, good ratings and reviews are very motivating!

But do not believe me, play the demo here!

Follow US!

I followed the instructions on the note, but here nobody seems to know the Magister! May be there is a secret passage?

If I managed to make you curious about Occulto game development, these are the ways you can follow us:
